Oman's first marine ambulance launched in Musandam

Muscat: Oman's first-ever marine ambulance service was launched  on Monday April 13 at Khasab port of  Musandam governorate.

An initiative of the Ministry of Health, it was launched in the presence of Sayyid Khalifa bin Al Mirdas Al Busaidy, governor of Musandam, Dr Darweesh bin Saif Al Muharbi, undersecretary at the Ministry of Health and other senior officials.

Nasir bin Saif Al Sadi, director general of Health Services of the governorate, said, "This marine ambulance service is one of the initiatives of the Ministry of Health at the regional level. The governorate has a strategic location, as well as a good set-up for this unique service."

The service aims to transport patients from coastal areas to health institutions, especially the critical and emergency cases, quickly and safely on four boats. These boats run to and from Khasab and Daba hospitals, as well as Khimzar and Lima health centres.

The marine ambulance has the necessary equipment and medical devices like ECG monitor, suction machine, defibrillator, nebuliser, ventilator and stretcher.
